Let’s start with saying that The Curated Closet is a pretty book! I chose it because I am trying to be more intentional with only choosing pieces that I love and that work with other items in my closet. I want to be able to chose any random item in my closet and it be a piece that I love. I am looking for more high quality pieces that will last many wears, over trendy pieces that will only take me through one season. This book walks you through how to chose your style based on your lifestyle and tastes. There are even color palettes to help you mix and match if that isn’t your thing.
A curated closet is different than a capsule wardrobe. There is a chapter on capsule wardrobes if that is your jam. For me, I just don’t think I can do it, but I do find it fascinating! A curated closet is simply a closet full of clothes that are tailored for your style and life.
I felt like the author was speaking to me specifically in several parts of the book. I used to have the more is more approach when it came to clothes and basically ended up only wearing about 20% of the items that I had. There is an exercise in this book where you take pictures of your outfits for two weeks and break down things like what color did you wear most, what was your favorite and least favorite, is there a fit you wear most often, do you want your clothes to be noticed, etc. It really makes you think more intentionally about the pieces that you chose and what your true style is.
This book covers finding your own personal style, how to detox your closet, how to build your wardrobe based on what type of clothes you need for your lifestyle, outfit formulas, how to shop and make the most of your budget, and how to chose items with the correct fit and quality.
My favorite section covered how to create a mood board and what to do with the mood board. I always see outfits on pinterest and blogs that I love but I never really thought what specifically about these looks that I like. If you look at my board as a whole, I start to see themes with either color palettes or the fit of something. I realized that I should be writing a list down of items that I want to try on and see how they work for me.
One thing I wish this book did offer was maybe more pictures. Though, I can understand why that would have been hard to do. I think this book would be a great addition for the fashionista in your life….or the person who could use some help in the wardrobe department! It certainly has given me great advice for how to get my wardrobe perfect after baby!
I received a copy of The Curated Closet from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.

I need this book in my life! I know that I am not utilizing my wardrobe to it’s full extent, especially for work. I only wear about a fourth of what’s in my closet but have such a hard time getting rid of stuff! Have a great day love!
I saw that you had read this on Goodreads and I was hoping you’d talk about it! I’m so tempted to read this, but it also feels a little pointless with baby on the way and having to buy clothes for the short term. I do really like the idea of finding my style (or maybe finding a slightly different style that isn’t just t-shirts and jeans all the time). And mood boards are always fun!
My closet is the death of me. I HATE going in there, because I know I’m going to be disappointed in 99% of the things in there — and they make me look horrible, and I just hate everything in there. I MUST get that fixed — please come help. And bring this book.
I could probably use a book like this. I have been trying and been fairly successful at keeping my closet more flexible. I realized I have pieces in there from a few years ago, which has never been the case before. I used to buy a ton of short term clothes that were trendy for a moment and then I didn’t like them later on.
oo this would be a fun one for me, I have to check it out!
I’m with you and really not sure if I could ever do a capsule wardrobe even though I tend to gravitate towards the same pieces in my closet over and over LOL! Really sounds like a great read! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
Definitely picking this book up to read! I love the idea of documenting outfits for 2 weeks to see what you gravitate towards more. 🙂
This book really sounds great. Lately I’ve tried to be more aware of what I put into my closets. It’s tough because at work I wear office casual pants and sweaters and cardigans, then on the weekends I switch to jeans and t-shirts and sweatshirts, then I have my workout/yoga clothes. Haha. I’m slowly trying to eliminate dress and clothes that just aren’t comfortable/don’t flatter me! I might need to check this book out!
That sounds so interesting! I have a closet full of clothes, and yet I’m notorious for only wearing a few select items. Maybe I need to look into this in order to cut down on clutter and free up some closet space!
I’m trying to do something similar. I did a HUGE purge of clothes in the spring of stuff that I didn’t really like, wasn’t flattering, hadn’t worn in forever, etc. I did a pretty good job but I think I need to do it again and get my wardrobe to a more manageable size and have only things that I love. I’d rather have a few things that I love than a ton of junk. I’m kind of in between those two things right now.
I so need to do this! Wish I could take a peek inside of the book!
