I started this post a few weeks ago, like I usually do, but it seems to be lost. Oh boy, let ‘s see what I can remember! Also, I know I read one more book than this, and for the life of me, I cannot remember!!! So clearly that one isn’t even worth mentioning. Linking up with Steph and Jana!
The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo
This was a beautiful love story. It was. It kept me interested the whole time and I wanted to see where things were going. I loved how the view is from the main character telling the story from the past. There was one thing that bothered me about Lucy though. She kept trying to sabotage her own happiness it seemed. I want to say a few other things that really bothered me about her, but I don’t want to give anything in the book away. Message me if you have read it!
Bottom Line: This was a beautiful love story, that will keep you interested the whole time.
Eversea by Natasha Boyd
When I started this book, I didn’t know that it was the first in a series. I am a little irritated with that, because the ending is sort of on a cliffhanger that I wasn’t expecting. That is my fault. I actually enjoyed the story itself though. It is about a star that fell on hard times and escapes to this little town where our lead female lives. They meet and he wants her to keep it a secret that he is there. What I don’t like is how rude Keri Ann is to him in the beginning for no reason other than he is a celebrity and she assumes she knows his type. The characters themselves are a little more under-developed than what I like in a book. But the story was so interesting and it had me wanting more. So I will have to get the next one to see what happens.
Bottom Line: I am only one book into this series, but I am definitely wanting the next to see where it goes!
Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty
I cant really review this book fairly, as my borrow from the library expired before I could finish. (A theme this month.) It took me a long time to get in to this book, but when I did…OMG!!! But then I realized it was going to expire and I had to skip to the end so I could hear what happened. I think some of the first half of the book could totally go away. It took too long to get to the good stuff! I am not entirely certain about all the ending things, so if you could clue me in on it….please do.
Bottom Line: Again, I cant rate this fairly. I really love Moriarty, but her last two books have left some to be desired for me. I enjoyed this a lot more than Truly Madly Guilty, I will say that. But I felt like some of the book could have been cut, because it dragged a little. And then I didn’t get to finish all of the ending, so I cant even be sure what happened. But still, it had my attention there once it started getting good!
It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way by Lisa Terkeurst
Full disclosure, I only got about 60% through this one before it was due back to the library. I hate when I get like three books at once. I know that there is no way that I can finish all of them in 14 days. But of the part I did read, I can say that this was a wonderful book about all the bad things that happen in your life that leave you questioning why. When you are down on your faith and out of fumes and don’t know how to push on. The author was raw and candid about sharing some her struggles in life, and how she got through them.
Bottom Line: I feel that this book is a great reminder of remaining hopeful through hard times, and remembering that everything is just a season. That you are not given more than you can handle. This is an excellent book for anyone that is going through anything. Or for those that have loved ones that are going through things. It is a Christian book. For some, that may not be your thing. I really liked the writing and how raw and honest the author was.
Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
I think I liked this one a little better than Girl, Wash Your Face. It is basically about the lies and excuses we tell ourselves on why we aren’t pursuing our dreams and how to overcome those. I don’t really know much about the author outside of the two books I have read from her, I never knew of her before seeing her book on link ups. I find that I enjoy her writing and find her very motivational. Some of her advice is sort of obvious, like things I should know. But sometimes you need that reminder. You need to hear someone else telling you it.
Bottom line: I definitely think it is worth the read.

I loved The Light We Lost. I have Nine Perfect Strangers here and plan to read it at some point!
I read Nine Perfect Strangers earlier this year and didn’t love it… I think it was too long or something? I had to make myself finish it. I read One Day in December around Christmas. I thought it was cute!
I really want to read It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way! Following Lysa’s story through her hardships with her husband has a definitely interested me in it!
I think we’re book twins… HAHA – you know I didnt finish Nine Perfect Strangers either… & I’m currently reading One Day in December too
You know how I feel about getting eight thousand library books all at the same time. I usually just end up not reading any of them. I loved Light We Lost, and am really interested in Stop Apologizing. Will have to get on that one asap.
Nine perfect strangers was just a tad too looney toones for me. lol I did not love it.
I have only liked one Moriarty.
I love the cover of Eversea.
I lost a library e-book this past month too…I’m on hold again because I was about halfway through. LOL Glad you read some good books!!

i really enjoyed nine perfect strangers, though i don’t remember the ending/details so can’t help you there. i definitely liked it more than truly madly guilty. i will say though, i agree with you about the start, it wasn’t thrilling or mysterious, more like general fiction with a slight wtf towards the end. which i really liked. and then i saw her in person a few weeks later and basically i’m a fangirl, so, whatever. did you know if your loan is about the expire (ebook), you can turn your kindle on airplane mode to save it to finish it? once you turn it back on wifi, it’ll disappear, but it’ll let you finish a book if you don’t have that much longer. i discovered that after reading an article by a librarian because apparently they are charged or something each time you borrow, so it’s better for the library for you to do it too. that way you can finish it, but it is released to the next person. i don’t do it all the time, only when i am almost finished and it’s going to disappear lol.
I loved the Light we lost, it had me in tears. I really thought One Day in December was really cute, I hope you enjoy!
I feel there is some unwritten library rule that all hold books must come available at once so you are overwhelmed and have zero possibility in completing them all before they are due. And because they are popular, you can’t recheck them out either. Story of my life. It seems like it can be feast or famine with books! The Light We Lost is already on my TBR. I am sadly not a Moriarty fan. I’ve read 2 or 3 of her books and did not enjoy any of them. I finally just gave up. It’s weird because it feels like we should be a good fit but clearly are not, even though it obviously took me a long time to figure that out! LOL
The Light We Lost has been on my list for a while, I definitely need to get to it. I haven’t read Rachel Hollis’ new one- my MIL has it so I’ll have to borrow it.
I know what you mean about Lucy constantly trying to sabotage her own happiness. It
Your library only lets you keep books for 14 days? That’s how mine is with eBooks, but we get 21 days on regular books. But I agree. 14 days is way too short sometimes.
One Day in December wasn’t quite epic for me. I started The Light We Lost but it got pushed to the back of the stack because I had library books to get through. I can renew at my library as much as I want (which I do lol), but not if someone else has it on hold, which does happen.
I’ve only read Nine Perfect Strangers off your list. I remember really liking it, but it was kind of forgettable. (I feel like stories with 1,000 different characters/POVs are often forgettable.) The ending was essentially happy for everyone from what I remember.
I never really got into Girl Wash Your Face the way people seem to be crazed about it, so I like that you said Girl Stop Apologizing was much better.
I think I have One Day in December on my Kindle…. if it is, it’s been there forever!
I didn’t finish Nine Perfect Strangers either. I tried but my library copy expired too and I never renewed it. not sure I will.
14 days only?! that’s way too short. you can renew though, right? unless the book is from the boomerang section, we get 3wks with 5 renewals (unless there’s a huge line, then you can’t renew).
