Books Lately

This month is extra special because we have two book link up days with Jana and Steph!!! Today I am sharing the books I read over the last month, and at the end of the month I will be sharing my top picks for 2016! Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler

Shotgun Lovesongs

I know everyone read this book last year, I get behind. Sorry! I really enjoyed this book. I will say, I am very glad I did this on audiobook because the story is being told from several characters points of view and it was nice to hear different voices for each chapter. I just loved getting to know these characters, their little town in Wisconsin and a little of the drama and growth between them. Nothing major or life changing about this book; just a really good, solid read.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for characters to get lost in and want to feel part of a small town…read it!

Rating: 4/5

Trophy Wife by Noelle Adams

Trophy Wife

This was a cute and quick read. This was about a Trophy Wife who gets divorced and moves to a small town and tries to make it on her own and figure out who she is and what she wants. She meets a local man and is conflicted on whether to date him or not because she doesn’t want to become a dependent trophy wife again. I appreciated her struggles to figure out who she was, and while the story was a little predictable at times, it was still a cute read.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a cute love story, give it a try.

Rating:3/5

**I received a copy of Trophy Wife from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**

The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney

The Nest

This book was really hyped up but to be honest…..it fell a flat for me. There were times I was literally bored and wondering should I just quit. Then other times I was wondering what was happening with the characters and wanted to keep going. And there are so many characters. Not only do you have the Plum siblings, but you also get these side characters you have to keep up with too. Some of them were completely pointless.

Sadly, I didn’t get to finish the before my time was up with it at the library. I was 80% done!!! Anyone want to tell me what happened at the end? Pretty please!?

Bottom Line: I could really take or leave this book, because I’m not waiting on the list for three more months to finish it.

I still haven’t read Shotgun Love Songs! I always feel like I’m far behind everybody else when it comes to reading the super popular books though. And The Nest basically ended with everybody figuring out that the nest didn’t matter for their happiness. Melanie sold her house, B settled down with the guy that was her editor and was writing her own book and the other brother figured out how to be alone. The whole family gathered around the girlfriend that had the baby at the end. To be honest it wasn’t my favorite book either! I listened to it and I’ll be reviewing next month!

Every year my mom gets me a Christmas book, usually a romantic Christmas story. Then, the next year at Christmas time I read it. Last year she got me – Dashing through the Snow by Debbie Macomber and that is what I am reading now. The lead character Dash– is dashing indeed and I hear they’re making it into a Hallmark movie. I always love your reviews!

I haven’t read any of these books, and I’m actually in a slump right now… Hopefully December and 2017 as a whole give me some reading motivation!

I have heard more that The Nest falls flat than that its good. Hard pass for me on that one now.

I’m even more behind than you with Shotgun Lovesongs– my library never had it for some reason, but I got it at a used bookstore over the summer and still haven’t read it- 2017 for sure though!

I kinda gave up wanting to read The Nest. Hearing you say that you can take it or leave it solidifies that decision.

The Nest has sort of been on my list, but everyone’s reviews are sort of meh so I think I’ll skip for now!! Love the sounds of trophy wife – definitely up my alley! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

Nickolas Butler. YAY! Glad you enjoyed it! And The Nest was meh. I don’t get the hype.

Somehow I managed to get a hold of The Nest when it first came out. And … I never even opened the book. I got because of all the hype but … yeah. So I’m sorry I can’t tell you how the story ended but sometimes hyped books can be the worst. Shotgun Lovesongs is on my TBR and reading your review makes me think I need to prioritize it higher. There are so many books that you forget why you put a certain book the list. 🙂

Yeah, I’m not a fan of The Nest. I read like 20%? Maybe? I don’t remember. I know I didn’t get halfway into it.

The Nest was terrible. Don’t finish, and it doesn’t matter what happens — such a bad book. LOL sorry, but I can’t believe how hyped up this book was. I hated it.
