Weekend Shenanigans

Another weekend has quickly come and gone!

Friday – It started out like any other Friday. A trip to Starbucks on my way to the office, lunch with Courtney…and then it started. The freezing rain. I had heard of reports further north of  the city but they kept saying the temperature was rising and acting like there wasn’t going to be a problem. Chris called me around 2:30 pm and told me that if I wanted to make it home at all I needed to leave RIGHT NOW! Yes sir!

He was so right!!! The minute I turned down the road to our neighborhood, it was super slick. By the time I got to the entrance for our neighborhood, they were shutting the road down!

I am so thankful that I made it home safely and didn’t get trapped anywhere! That evening we stayed in (obviously) and kept checking to see if it would change over to snow so we could go play. Never did. Sigh.

Saturday – We headed to lunch at Jack Brown’s to prep for brewfest! I ordered the Danny Laruso, a water and I totally had a fried oreo. Ain’t no shame in my drinking game!

Jack_BrownsAfter lunch, we met up with our friends for Wild South Brewfest! We had a great time, lot’s of different breweries out there. My favorites for the day were the Triple Belgium from Cheaha Brewing, The Rye Saison from Back Forty and the Belgium Red Rye from Black Warrior.

After the Brewfest was over, it was time for dinner. We headed to World of Beer, of course!!! We had some friends in town from Huntsville that have never been. When they were describing where to go they said somewhere cozy with comfort food and a great beer selection. Sounds like WOB to me?! The place ended up packed out before we left. There must have been a bar crawl going on, there were a ton of people that showed up looking like golfers and I even saw the penguin from Happy Gilmore.

Sunday – There was a possibility of winter weather for today, so Sunday morning I headed to the grocery store early to avoid the crowds. When I got home, Chris had a friend over so I unloaded the groceries and cleaned the house while they were down stairs.

We bought a friend’s treadmill and decided to go pick it up. It was such a debacle trying to get it out of their house! We had to take a door off it’s frame and everything!! We finally went to load it in my car and it didn’t fit. *head slap* Soooooo my sister came to the rescue later in the evening with her huge ass truck!

This is my running view for now. We are in no rush to take all the doors out in our house to get it upstairs! Week 1 Day 1 of C25K is done!

We also go some gaming in this weekend!

Weekend Shenanigans

I want a recount. It can’t possibly be Monday already?! This weekend we didn’t really have any plans for Saturday and Sunday, but it ended up being much busier than expected!

Friday – I met up with Laura after work Friday evening for the Pride of Dixie event at World of Beer. There were fifteen Alabama breweries in attendance with FORTY taps. Forty people. 4-0. Try picking a beer with all that going on! I couldn’t believe the turn out! I got there shortly after 5 PM and there wasn’t a single table available inside. About 15 minutes after I got there, all the outside tables were gone and there were people standing around everywhere. In 40 degree wet weather in Alabama might I remind you! Such an amazing event for this city and the breweries here! I tried the Rocket Republic Peanut Butter Astronut Brown beer. It was delicious!

World of Beer

Saturday morning I did a deep cleaning in the dogs room. I vacuumed, cleaned out their crates and threw out their old beds and blankets. Then they got baths as well, the little stinkers!

Chris and I headed down town after that and grabbed Jack Browns for lunch! It has been awhile since we have been and it was so damn delicious! I got the Danny Laruso (cream cheese and jalapeno jelly) and we split fries.

IMG_4571

We then decided to hit up some thrift shops. We scored some really good deals on some old Xbox’s and a Sega. We decided if they didn’t work we would do something crafty with them. We also got some old Xbox games and a few Nintendo games that we didn’t have. From there we headed to TJ Maxx to get the dogs their new beds and I got the first piece for our gallery wall too!

Sunday – We met up with Chris’s parents for lunch at Village Tavern. They have the best crab dip!!! I also got their tomato basil soup and a spinach salad and failed to take pictures. From there, we headed to the Antique Flea Market Mall in Gardendale. You guys, we scored big time!!!

IMG_4576

So many video games!!! A few were rare, hard to find ones. Also, I collect character glasses from the 60’s – 90’s and these ones were too good of deals to pass up. One day I will have to share my collection with you. One or two of these might be repeats but I dont care, these were a steal!

We got our grocery shopping done late in the evening and had peanut butter cookies for dinner.

And that was how the weekend just flew right on by!!!

In other news, Crispy M&M’s are back you guys!!!

I found that single serve pack at Walgreen’s but they have the full size bags at CVS. Go getcha some!

I hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Weekend Shenanigans

Oh, hey there Monday! You sure did come quickly! This weekend was one of those where there were a lot of things I could have gone to, but chose just a few to not overwhelm myself. Let’s just jump right in, shall we?

Friday after work I met up with Chris at World of Beer. Monday Night Brewing was having an event there with three of their beers on tap and they were giving out free swag and such. I tweeted a picture from the MCB account and the guy from the brewery walked around trying to figure out where the picture had come from. He was really nice and gave us some swag.

IMG_4528

When we were ready to go home, we ordered a pizza to go from Little Italy. It is new to the five points area and it is hands down the BEST pizza I have had in Birmingham! It is the only “real” pizza as far as I am concerned. Highly recommend you locals try it out, I am a pizza snob and don’t usually go throwing out words like the best!

IMG_4535

Saturday – Chris was having some friends over Saturday afternoon/evening to play video games so I stayed in Saturday morning to get the cleaning done. We also headed to Target to pick up some snacks for them. While we were there I scored some great clearance items!

IMG_4540

I mean check out this calender!!!! I am going to hang it in my cube at work to bring a little color to the area. And dogs make me smile, especially sassy ones that say “If I were dating myself, I would give myself a cookie everyday and it would be adorable.” Um, yes!!

IMG_4541

Those KitchenAid towels were $1.78 from $5.99. Score! We then headed to Red Robbin for lunch. There aren’t many good places to choose from in Trussville, so when in doubt…grab a burger. I ordered the Blue Ribbon. I love blue cheese burgers!

IMG_4539

When we got back home, we hung some more things up in the basement and then I got ready to leave for my dinner date with Laura and B.

We met up at Melt and I have been wanting to try their Greek salad since the first time I was there, and so I finally ordered it. Check out the presentation! The toppings along with some pasta salad come in a mason jar in the middle of the bowl. So cool. It was delicious!!!

IMG_4543

We chatted for awhile and had a great time. After dinner I came home and started a new book, number 19 in the series and went to bed around 11 pm (like a bad-ass) while the boys were playing games in the basement.

Sunday we did our meal planning and grocery shopping. We also hung out with my sister in law for a little bit. In the afternoon we watched some movies on TV. We haven’t done that in forever! We watched part of the last Matrix, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, and American Pie Wedding. It was fabulous!

And like that, the weekend had come and gone and I didn’t get nearly as much done as I wanted to! You know, like fix my header, get some posts typed up, read more of my book, get some organizing done. Such is life, am I right? I hope everyone has a great week! Unlike most of you, I have to work today 🙁 The real estate world does not care about MLK day. Boo!

Birmingham, favorites, friday favorites

Friday Favorites

Favorite Song – Hold On – Rusko featuring Amber Coffman – I have always loved this song. It is great for working out. Or dancing around in the bathroom while you are getting ready. Whatever your thing is.

Also, Chris still has his Halloween 2014 Mix free for download. He is dj’ing at a huge Halloween party tomorrow night and I am sure we will be listening to this during the day to get pumped up.

Favorite Recipe – Korean Beef – I can’t take credit for this one, I found it on Pinterest. This was so easy and delicious! Using extra lean ground beef and making my own “fried rice” kept it healthy too. See how yummy it turned out?!

IMG_3940.JPG

Favorite News – I won a gift card to Centime from The Florkens! Yay! Now I just need to decide if I want a cool handwriting bracelet, or one of those super chic bar necklaces with my name on it. Hmmmmm thoughts?

Classic Nameplate Necklace

Favorite Livvy Pictures – Most days, Livvy usually walks to the edge of the stairs when I leave and acts like she might actually miss me. I love when she humors me this way. Some days, she even comes down the stairs some and sticks her little kitty body through the rails to reach out for me. It is pretty adorable. Leaving that face…or the faces of Gracie and Mac…is quite difficult.

You know what I like about people? ... Their pets.

My "I hate you" face must look very similar to my "tell me more" face. I'll have to work on that.

Haha! I like my stickers! :) It's a nice reminder for all the mo's on the road that there is a family inside of the car, plus it helps me find my van in the sea of other mini vans.

Weekend Shenanigans – The Last of Summer

Well hey there last day if summer! With the temps dropping into the 80’s for the next several days instead of the 90’s…maybe fall is coming here?! One can hope!

Friday – I went to lunch with the co-workers Friday. I normally only eat with the ones that bring their lunches during the week and go out with my girl friends on Friday but we had been talking about wanting to try the Greg Brady burger at Jack Browns and they only serve it on Fridays. You guys…..this burger…..

IMG_3690.JPG

It has house made macaroni and cheese, a slice of cheese and BBQ potato chips on it. Freaking delicious!

Friday evening I was exhausted and we decided to stay in. I made some seven layer dip and we hung around listened to music and watched TV.

Saturday – I got up bright and early on Saturday morning and worked out, made breakfast then cut our front and half the side yard. I then got ready and we headed down town to meet up with Laura, B and Meighan!!! We started out at World of Beer to watch the Alabama game. I was super nervous about the game because my coworkers bet our corporate office that we would beat our spread against Florida or else we would have to were Gator gear to our retreat next month. When the game started out I got really nervous because for a few minutes Florida was winning 14 to 7. Luckily we pulled it out and wont 42 to 21. Thank the football gods I don’t have to wear that hideous Gator shit next month! Annnnnd now they all have to wear Bama gear. Muh haha! The moral of the story? Never let your coworkers place a bet on your behalf. Talk about stress!

Of course Laura had to wear her Auburn colors.

After the game, we walked down to Fuego for some dinner! I ordered the taco salad and it was delish!

IMG_3705.JPG

After dinner, Meighan headed to meet up with her fiance and Laura, B, Chris and I headed to Lakeview and the guys hung out at Vape Loft while Laura and I grabbed bushwackers at Lou’s! In true grandma fashion, we were home by 10:30 pm!

Sunday – I got up early Sunday and cleaned the house, made breakfast, meal planned then got our grocery shopping down. I also stopped by Sephora to return a new face wash that I tried that blew my face up. I am so glad they have such an amazing return policy. I came home and made Chris lunch and prepared food to take to my sister’s house for dinner. We celebrated my dad’s birthday last night with him. (It is tomorrow.) Tracy had all the kids home, so it was nice to see everyone for awhile. She makes these amazing chicken quesadilla roll ups that are absolutely amazing. I think I have her recipe sitting around here and I will have to share it one day!

I didn’t get home until 8:00 pm, and the rest of the evening looked like this:

Annnd the Steelers pulled off a win last night! Yay!

And that was how I spent the last weekend of summer!
