Weekend Shenanigans and Back On Track

We are over half way through the month already, what?!?! I cant believe how fast my leave has gone, I will be going back to work soon. But I don’t like to even think about that right now, so on to more fun things like the weekend! This weekend we had dinner at my sister-in-laws Saturday night and then did a little late night grocery shopping. Sunday was a day of lounging on the couch and catching up with all of our TV shows. Yesterday, my I took my sister out shopping for some new work clothes. We had so much fun! Zoe loved getting to see both her aunts and her two youngest cousins this weekend.

So much excitement at Nordstrom Rack, someone decided to take a nap.

Her Sunday game is strong too, see…

As far as my Whole 30 journey? Well, things have been going well since I got back on track from the few infractions during the snow. I have been bringing back some of my favorite recipes from my last Whole 30 and trying a few new ones too. Emotionally this time is different for me since I am doing it for different reasons. It is a little harder to keep motivated to stay on track because I don’t have the work outs to go with it. I think I had an easier time last year because I was working out consistently as well and feeling results. You know, endorphins and shit.

It is easier to make the healthy choice now than the first week though, since I have flushed processed foods and sugars from my system I am not craving them as much. I am starting to turn to my long term goal and deciding where I will go on February 1st. I am thinking about doing a 90/10 diet or maybe….counting calories. And ohhhhhhh how I hate hate hate counting calories and tracking everything I eat.  We will see, I am still on the fence. Just trying to figure out the best way to stay on course.

Here is what my food has been looking like lately. No one said that being healthy meant being boring! Some of my favorite things tailored to be Whole 30 compliant! Thai Chicken Soup, Sloppy Joes over a potato and Kung Pao Chicken with stir fry veggies.

I was supposed to go to the doctor for my six week postpartum check up yesterday. They called me an hour before my appointment to let me know that they had accidentally scheduled me with the wrong doctor and that my doctor wasn’t in. I am rescheduled for late this week, so I am hoping for some good news to be healing well and hopefully be released to start working out again!  It is going to take a long time to build back up to where I was, so the sooner I can start…the better.

Shenanigans and a Back on Track Check In

I decided to talk about my weekend with the Back on Track check in because…well…I have to talk about my weekend to explain myself.

What had happened was…

Well, really, what had happened was I wasn’t prepared on Friday. I knew bad weather was coming but I wasn’t sure what our plans were. We usually stay at our house when there is snow and it’s no big thing. Well, with a newborn we decided to go to my in-laws. We were worried that we would lose electricity with the ice and how can you keep a 5 week old warm with no heat?? And then the fact that we live 15 minutes off the closest exit up a mountain isn’t very conducive if there is an emergency and we need to get out. Your views on everything change the minute you are responsible for a tiny life.

img_1380

I didn’t really think ahead to get snacks and food to take with me and well Whole 30 isn’t the most accommodating thing to do when you aren’t home so I just went with whatever I could because hunger won. I had at least 4 or 5 infractions over the weekend and then on Saturday night when we got home I said fuck it and had some wine. So I restarted Whole 30 yesterday.

To be honest, I am not disappointed in myself. Last year, Whole 30 was all about me trying to prove to myself that I could do it. That I could stick to the rules for 30 days and have the will power. And I did it and it was awesome. This year, Whole 30 is more about me getting my eating back in control and get my “healthy lifestyle” attitude back. Lifestyles include some splurges here and there so I am not too mad about it. I am at the point in my life where I realize that I went off the path for a meal or two but I can get right back on. The old me would have thought that I ruined it and I would have given up and started again next month only to have the same thing occur. Now? I can just be good from here on out and it is fine. No giving up.

So other than the infractions, my weekend consisted of staying at our in-laws Friday morning until Saturday afternoon. The rest of the weekend we stayed at our house and I got some things done around the house, watched my Steelers beat some Dolphin ass, started reading Magnolia Story and caught up on some of our shows.

Then of course, there were the many faces of Little Z! Her little newborn sized clothes are starting to get too short for her! Ahhhhh don’t get me started I might cry.

New Year Shenanigans

Guess who was up to ring in the New Year this year?! Me!!! Only because Zoe was up for a feeding. My goal was to sleep. She is such a party animal. But don’t worry, just because it is a New Year doesn’t mean I plan on changing any time soon….

img_1284

Now that is out of the way, let’s have a proper weekend review, shall we? Even if it is late on a Tuesday. I never said I would have my shit together by now did I? Surely not. So this weekend….

Zoe made her first visit to Starbucks, she was clearly impressed.

While watching the Alabama game, I realized that I was sitting in the chair watching my daughter nap while petting Mac. The same chair that during the last game, I sat there and pet Mac knowing I was in full blown labor! It was surreal.

Zoe got to see the Tide roll over Washington and head to the championship!!! This is her touchdown Alabama pose!!!

I reflected back on 2016…

I had my first adult beverage since March of 2016.

And I got all teary eyed walking in to the nursery and seeing Chris feeding Zoe after work. This little girl LOVES her daddy!!!

I hope that you all had a wonderful New Years!!!

Weekend Shenanigans

I have always wondered what it would feel like to have a few weekends without having to worry about going back to work on Monday. Since I am off for the next month, I have experienced two so far and I have decided that weekends go by just as quickly when you are not working. I thought for sure that it wouldn’t feel different than a week day but it does!

This weekend we got little Z out and about twice! Her first outing? Sam’s Club, Mexican for lunch and a disappointing trip to Bargain Hunt happened on Friday.

It is so crazy going from being a carefree couple of two, to a family of three with a newborn. Before when we wanted to go somewhere, we just left. No big deal. Now? I make sure to feed and change Z and then pack her diaper bag with anything that we might need the few hours while we are out. Which is literally everything in her room! We need diapers and wipes and a change of clothes and some bottles and pacifier and a blanket and a burp cloth and the list goes on and on! It takes some preparing before you are just out the door!

Saturday morning was rough. We woke up to our septic tank backing up again, to someone being two hours late to meet us. We finally got out in the afternoon and headed to run some errands in the busiest area in Birmingham. Little Miss slept the entire time once again. Clearly our outings are quite exhausting for her! I feel like I got us out the door much faster Saturday!

Sunday looked a lot like this….

img_1102

It is insanity how much space a tiny human takes up with their gear. Our living room has been taken over with the pack and play, rock and play and other items! I wouldn’t have it any other way though. Just as long as I still have half a view of our Christmas tree and TV, then I am good!

And because they are too good to not share…

Passing out immediately after eating never felt so good, apparently.

img_1123

This was a 4am stare down. She clearly won…

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I have gifts to wrap, cards to receive and get addressed and back out the same day, and some chili to cook! Happy week before Christmas!!!

Weekend Shenanigans

Coming back after a long holiday weekend is always the hardest, am I right? Work a full five days?!?! Raise your hand if you ate too much on Thanksgiving.

I was going through my pictures on my phone this weekend and realized that I didn’t take that many. Oops. Thanksgiving was wonderful and relaxed. We started a new tradition this year with homemade pancakes from scratch in the morning with some Thanksgiving episodes of South Park. The pancakes were delicious!!! So glad I happened to have everything on hand to make them.

We spent the day with Chris’s family at his parents house. We talked, we ate, lots of people felt my belly. I would like to point out that pineapple does not help labor along. I ate my weight in pineapple casserole this weekend (my favorite thing ever) and nothing….

img_0803

I was looking through the sales ads with Chris, my BIL and SIL and feeling a little sad that I wasn’t going to be going out shopping that evening with my mom. We decided to brave the crowds around 6 and headed to Best Buy. Chris wanted to try and get the 4K monitor they had on sale and I am always down for a good deal. There was a line to get in an hour after they opened. Crazy!! My SIL and I decided to walk down to JCPenney while the boys waited. So glad we did, we both scored some amazing finds!!! The Best Buy near us didn’t have the monitor but another in the area did so the boys picked us up out front of JCPenney and we raced to the other one. Chris was able to secure his monitor!

img_0782

We stayed home all day Friday. We were able to get our Christmas decorations up and my mom and sister came over that evening to see the nursery. That’s right, the nursery is all ready!!!! Come back tomorrow for the big reveal!

img_0824

Saturday is like a national holiday here in Alabama with Iron Bowl!!! We headed over to Chris’s parents house early to watch Alabama put the beat down on Auburn. I thought for sure the game was going to put me into labor, but it was the damn announcers. CBS is always the worst to Alabama and this Saturday had to be the most epic disaster ever with them. They were more focused on Joe Namath and his damn fur coat than the football game that was going on. I am so glad that Vern is retiring this year. Peace out. I have a feeling it will be quiet on the Auburn side of the office this morning. Hehehe.

Of course, no weekend is complete without Mac’s Shenanigans!!! Does this guy know how to relax or what?

lots-of-mac

And now we are officially on for Baby Watch 2016. Some are more patient than others…
