Weekend Shenanigans – The One With a Bunny

Some weekends are so productive, you know….like last weekend. And some weekends are not. This is one that was not! Also, can we agree that the Monday after Easter should be a national day off? Please?

Our office closed early on Friday, and after being frustrated most of the day with people on the phone…I took advantage of the early outing and went to the outlet mall on my way home! I stopped by Loft, where I proceeded to try on every dress in the store and hated them all on me. I did find a great summer sweater, a cute floral tank top and some ankle jeans. And a necklace, because duh 50% off. I also peeked in to J Crew where they did not have the dress I was lusting at on Friday. They did have the shirt but I hated the material, and decided to go to Old Navy. I didn’t really see anything there that I loved either.

Friday night, Chris and I decided to order pizza from Fox’s and binge watch some TV shows. I also got some reading done 🙂

Saturday we started hitting up the thrift stores early! We did our big tour of them that we try to do about once a month. We found some games and I got three books for $2.75 total!

While we were in Oxford, we stopped at Cheaha Brewing Company. They are located in an old train station, and the building is just gorgeous!!! I took lots of pictures because I couldn’t get enough of the wood beams, exposed brick and old world character.

The outside, they did have a patio in the back, but I wanted to stare at the inside!

We ordered chips, salsa and beer cheese for our appetizer. I had a sweet potato beer, which was amazing!!! Their burgers are grass fed cows from a local farm and everything was top notch. Those sweet potato fries. You guys…..those sweet potato fries!!! Those were the BEST sweet potato fries I have ever had. Ever. I loved all the details of high quality products, they even had organic sea salt and organic black pepper on the tables.

The staff was super friendly and they brought out several samples of beer for us to taste. Not only do they serve their own there, but they have other local breweries on tap as well! You can even buy local art off the walls!

I cannot brag on this place enough!!! I know that we will be back for sure!

Saturday night, we were exhausted after all that thrifting. We stopped by Chris’s parents for a few minutes then headed home.

On Easter, Chris and I have a tradition of going to Waffle House for breakfast in the morning because we know we are going to spend the rest of the day with his family so we take some us time.

Bacon egg and cheese Texas melt for the win! With cheese hash browns of course!

We headed to Chris’s parents house around 11:30 and had a delicious lunch and got to spend lots of time with his family. I think us adults had more fun hiding the Easter eggs than the kids did searching for them. 🙂

When we got back home last night, we decided to watch Walk Hard and SNL from this weekend…which was freaking hilarious. Their CNN skit was on point and I loved that Michael Keaton was the host. I’m Batman!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!!! I started out my morning right with a new record on how long I can run for, so that’s always good 🙂 Have a great week!

Weekend Shenanigans

It’s time for my Weekend Shenanigans!!! I am going to call this weekend hella productive! Let’s just jump in, shall we?

Friday evening, Chris and I headed to the Pell City thrift store and scored a good haul. We grabbed some food on the way home and watched some reruns of Big Bang. That is the perfect Friday night for me.

Saturday I cleaned the house, cut the grass…all of the grass, and finished cataloging the games upstairs and the ones we had just got. Cutting our entire yard is a huge deal, I was so proud of myself for getting it all done in one swoop. We got ready and we were going to go to World of Beer…but we were both tired. All that work takes a lot out of you! Even the dogs were tired!

Gracie and Mac

Instead we stayed in and watched the Ultra Music Festival live from Miami on the projector and got caught up on some of our shows.

Usher at UltraThat”s right folks…that is Ursher, baby!!! Certainly the highlight of the night for me 🙂 There was also a dude that played the sax for awhile that was really cool…

Ultra 2015

I enjoy tuning in for awhile each year, but I could never handle a whole weekend of that in the Miami heat. Too old!

Sunday morning I got some blog stuff done and pinned some shit because you know how Pinterest goes once you are signed in. Then I decided it was time. It was time to be honest and clean out my closet for real.

The rules I set up for myself? If I don’t love it right now, it comes out of the closet. If I really still liked it, and I just wish it would fit a little better...you know if I lost like 5 to 10 pounds…. it would go into a storage tote and be re-evaluated. If I wasn’t thrilled to own it? Donation pile.

Before:

I literally tried on every single thing that was hanging, unless it is something I wore in the last week. I got rid of…wait for it….45 tops. Forty-five. And 3 skirts.

After:

Sure, it might not look that different in these pictures, but I had enough space that I was able to move my skirts that were on Chris’s top shelf down. Also, the hangers actually have space between them and I can see what I own.

I always have my closet organized by type of top (tank top, regular top, sweater) and then by color from lightest to darkest.

After all that organizing, it was time for lunch! We met up with Chris’s parents and headed to J Alexander’s. I ordered my usual when I am trying to be good, Thai Kai Salad. It was delicious as always.

After lunch, we walked around Bargain Hunt then headed to Target to get our grocery shopping done. I made a Pear and Gorgonzola Flat Bread for dinner.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Let’s bring it, Monday!

Weekend Shenanigans

I seriously am amazed every Sunday evening when the realization kicks in that the weekend is just about over. Like where did it even go?

Friday – We stayed in Friday evening and caught up on some of our shows. I made soup for dinner for myself, Chris had Subway. I was exhausted! I had worked from home on Thursday, trying to fight off some horrible bug that Chris had caught. Apparently that took a lot out of me!

Saturday – I was Cinderella Saturday morning. I am in spring cleaning mode so I did a deep clean of the entire main floor of our house. All of the blankets were washed, the bathmat and rugs in the bathrooms, lots of dusting and floor cleaning. I even cleaned some of the baseboards. #LOATHE

We headed to three thrift shops. We scored a few games and I hit the mother-load at the last one that had a ton of great books. I picked up these two for 99 cents. (Cue the Thrift Shop song….But shit, it was 99 cents…….)

IMG_4909

I couldn’t believe how many great hardback books they had there for 99 cents! I will be sure to look more closely at the book sections from now on. I wanted the South Beach Diet book for all the recipes it had and I can’t wait to dive in to The Beach House.

I was starving, so we headed downtown to try a new place, BYOB. (Build Your Own Burger) We ordered cheese fries to split, and we each had our own burger. The cheese fries were delicious!

IMG_4905

The burgers though? The burgers were horrible. Both of them were burnt and disgusting. Chris took one bite of his and was like…I am not eating this shit. I ate about 1/4 of mine because I was freaking starving and needed to have something. Had I not been starving, I wouldn’t have eaten mine either. It was really really burnt to the point it was crunchy. And it was $9.50 for just the burger. It didn’t come with a side or anything. That is really high for a crappy burger.

I have had better burgers at Whataburger and Sonic, I am sad to say. It’s ok though, because Jack Brown’s is just around the corner and I will stick with them next time! They never disappoint!

Saturday evening we stayed in and watched Scandal, Shark Tank, Grimm and some reruns of How I Met Your Mother. We ordered Chinese food, I had the egg drop soup and it was delicious! It more than made up for my shitty burger experience.

Sunday – I worked on some blog things, meal planned and grocery shopped. I got caught up on some magazine reading. I also completed our video game cataloging for all the vintage games we have. I still need to do what we have upstairs for the newest systems, but that wont take very long at all. It feels so good to have that done!

In other news, I was super excited to receive a box of Greystone Bakery brownies in the mail on Friday!

Greystone BakeryThese brownies are delicious!!! They are all-natural and kosher brownies baked from scratch. There are no preservatives and you can certainly taste the freshness! My favorite thing about them other than being delicious, is that there is a larger mission behind their company. They have an open-hiring policy to support low-income individuals and their families.

Greystone Bakery Mission

My favorite was the Brown Sugar Blondie. I love Blondies!!!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Can you believe this is the last full week of March?!?! I am not even sure how that happened!

Birmingham, weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans – The One I Pretend I am 22

Oh hey there Monday, be kind to me. It has been a busy weekend of me pretending I am 22 instead of 31!

Friday, I had lunch at Ocarr’s with my usual group. I LOVE their fruit and chicken salad there. You get such a great variety of fresh yummy fruits that you wouldn’t get anywhere else.

IMG_4851

Friday evening, Chris and I hit up a few thrift stores around town and scored some great games. We then made a horrible decision to stop at Zaxby’s on the way  home for lack of options off our exit. It was delicious…but so so bad. When we were done eating, we both said…

Saturday was an exciting day! I spent about two hours in the morning cataloging our game collection. This has been a huge undertaking and I only have all of our Sega collection to finish now. We then got ready and headed downtown to meet up with our friend Stephen who is in town from Vegas! We met up with him at World of Beer, grabbed a drink and then headed to Eat Drink Birmingham in Homewood. We sampled delicious food and beer pairings for about two hours and then headed back to our house for awhile to relax.

Eat Drink Birmingham

Stephen hadn’t been to Birmingham since we moved here so he wanted to check it out and start getting in to the zone for the evening. What does a world famous DJ do when he comes to our house? Plays video games, of course!!!

IMG_4878

He was loving all of our old school games downstairs and we also played Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. After our gaming session, we headed back down town. We grabbed burgers at Jack Brown’s and then Stephen went to go get ready at his hotel while Chris and I waited at World of Beer (for the second time of the day) for him to be done.

18503_10152702450422724_91541845482959091_n

World of BeerWe then headed to Skky Nightclub for the evening where Stephen performed. He killed it, as usual! It was so great getting to spend time with him. It was pretty cool because we got the VIP area up on stage with these white leather couches. And get this….I stayed up until 4 am!!! The girl who is usually asleep by 10 pm most evenings was wide awake and jamming until 4 am.

Annnnnnnd then I proceeded to feel like death all day Sunday. Not from drinking, as I only had 4 beers the entire day…but because I am far too old to be dancing in 4 inch heels until the weeee morning hours. My knees. Oh my knees!!!

Sunday we hung around the house in the morning waiting for death. Since death did not come, we grabbed some Mexican on a patio for lunch since it was a gorgeous day. We headed to Chris’s parents house for a little while to check out his dad’s new toy and then did our grocery shopping like the adults we are.

Now excuse me while I try to survive the rest of the day. My run this morning was really hard  but I pushed through and now my body is screaming at me! Crazy how after you hit 30, your body rebels against you! Am I right?! Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Weekend Shenanigans

Did you remember to spring forward? I must say that 4:35 AM felt extra early this morning! Let’s just jump in to my weekend shenanigans, shall we?

Friday was a weird day. I woke up to 54 degrees inside our house, as our heat had broken over night. Fun times. I ended up skipping my run because who wants to shower when it is 54 degrees inside? Not me! I got to work to discover that the thermostat was broken and cold as shit as well. At lunch I went to meet my lunch club and it took me about 20 minutes to find a parking spot because the shopping center was ridiculous and everyone else was already there so we couldn’t change locations. Shout out to Courtney for standing in line a second time to place my order for me! So Friday evening, we stayed in and enjoyed the warmth of our newly fixed heater.

Saturday we got up and headed to a thrift store and flea market in Moody. We then headed down town for lunch at Babalu. We got to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the weather’s spring preview. It was such a gorgeous day! From there we took an impromptu trip up I-65 North and hit a few thrift stores between Birmingham and Huntsville. We saw some really pretty views along the way.

IMG_4807

IMG_4824

We called our friends that live in Huntsville and ended up meeting them at Stem and Stein for some beers. I tried the Wells Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale and OMG it was freaking delicious!!!! This is the smoothest beer I have ever had. No bite afterwards. It is darker without being heavy.

Unfortunately, our service was a little less than stellar, so we decided to head somewhere else to grab food. We ended up at the Moe’s BBQ in the Providence area of Huntsville. I love that area, there are a ton of restaurants and it is a cute spot.

Sunday I had to run up to my dad’s house and I got to see his new puppy, Vixon. She is ADORABLE!!! I meant to snap a picture but I was too busy playing and receiving puppy breath kisses. She is a boxer/rottweiler mix. They rescued her from a really bad situation and she is such a sweet baby! Here is a picture the day they brought her home. She is like double this size already! Look at her white socks!

Vixon

I then headed to the grocery store and came home and made Stephanie’s No Bake Energy Bites. These things are freaking delicious and you must try them! The rest of the day was spent watching reruns of The Big Bang Theory and laundry.

Weekend Eats

weekend foodThe menu and my beer at Stem and Stein/Enchilada’s of the Day from Babalu – They  were pork with poblano peppers and delicious!/Iced coffee I made Sunday afternoon in a mason jar because why not?/The energy bites before they were mixed and rolled

In other news, I finally painted my nails! This is Revlon Lavender Soap! They have put all of the Parfumerie line on clearance at Target for $1.48. Score!

Revlon Lavender Soap

It is a little hard to tell in my picture, but it is a pearly-lavender color. I just love it! It it smells just like lavender soap!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! If you live in the Birmingham area, next Saturday is Eat Drink Birmingham! I am SOOOOO freaking excited for this event. Go ahead and pre-order your tickets now!

Hope you have a great week! I for one am excited that it is going to be light when I leave work tonight!!! Well, as light as it can be seeing as it is all gloomy and rainy today…
