Weekend Shenanigans & Getting Fit

Can you believe March is here? Say whaaa?

I had been fighting off getting a cold starting around Thursday after lunch. On Friday we decided to stay in since I wasn’t feeling 100% We caught up on some of our shows and then I started reading Yeah, Maybe. You guys, I could NOT put this book down! I literally read half of the book in one sitting. The only reason I stopped was because it was getting super late and I knew I needed to go to bed.

Saturday we decided to hit up the thrift store in Pell City. It was a bust, but since we were half way to Oxford at that point….we decided to keep driving! We hit up a few there, stopped by my mom’s house for a while to see her and my fursisters, ate at Jefferson’s and then headed up Hwy 431 and hit every thrift shop between Oxford and Gadsden!! We ended our evening by birthday shopping for Christopher and Cooper (two of our nephews) and getting some of our grocery shopping done. Grocery shopping on Saturday night is awful, so many meats had expiration dates of Monday. Uh, no thanks…so I am going to have to finish getting our stuff tonight after work.

We grabbed Moe’s BBQ on the way home.

Weekend eats…

weekend eatsChicken Salad Chick lunch on Friday (scoop of Fancy Nancy with pasta salad and fruit), Moe’s BBQ Smoked Turkey with baked beans and potato salad(which I gave to Chris), and Jefferson’s cheese fries that had way too much cheese on them. Yes, there is a thing as too much cheese…who knew??

Sunday I worked on some blog posts, organized and started cataloging our video game collection, reading the rest of Yeah, Maybe (review to come) and finishing my research on IIFYM and purposeful household plants (post to come!!).

I realized that all of my nieces and nephews are too old for the Sesame Street Wrapping paper I have. I finished up one of the rolls for Cooper because I know he cares nothing about what the presents are actually wrapped in…just what they are!

wrapping_paper

We took the presents to my sisters house to celebrate with them! I can’t even believe that Cooper is 5 today and Christopher recently turned 10!!!! It also made me remember that the boys are the same age difference as Tracy and I. And that all of our youngest nieces and nephews (there are three of them the same age) all turn 5 this year and will be starting kindergarten in the fall! I can’t even handle that!

In other news…

Erin and Kristen brought back their 4 Weeks Fit Challenge! This is perfect timing for me! I shared my new work out schedule on Friday, so that will be part of my goal for the next four weeks…continuing with my C25K program.

The other part of my challenge will involve the kitchen. If you didn’t already know, unfortunately, abs are made in the kitchen. I have been doing research for a few weeks now on the IIFYM plan and then Mia posted this last week. Her post was great and covered the basics that you need to know, so I wont go in to some long spill.

Basically you are allotting yourself “x” amount of calories each day. But you are focusing on how many of those calories come from protein, carbs and fats. You can eat whatever you want, just so long as it fits in your macros.

Shit got real and I bought a food scale, so you know I am serious!

If you are planning on participating in the challenge, best of luck! Let me know so I can keep up with you! There is more winter weather planning to wreak havoc on the south in the form of freezing rain later this week. Gross. I love snow, I do not love ice. I really enjoyed the snowy views on my commute Thursday morning…

Weekend Shenanigans

Another weekend has quickly come and gone!

Friday – It started out like any other Friday. A trip to Starbucks on my way to the office, lunch with Courtney…and then it started. The freezing rain. I had heard of reports further north of  the city but they kept saying the temperature was rising and acting like there wasn’t going to be a problem. Chris called me around 2:30 pm and told me that if I wanted to make it home at all I needed to leave RIGHT NOW! Yes sir!

He was so right!!! The minute I turned down the road to our neighborhood, it was super slick. By the time I got to the entrance for our neighborhood, they were shutting the road down!

I am so thankful that I made it home safely and didn’t get trapped anywhere! That evening we stayed in (obviously) and kept checking to see if it would change over to snow so we could go play. Never did. Sigh.

Saturday – We headed to lunch at Jack Brown’s to prep for brewfest! I ordered the Danny Laruso, a water and I totally had a fried oreo. Ain’t no shame in my drinking game!

Jack_BrownsAfter lunch, we met up with our friends for Wild South Brewfest! We had a great time, lot’s of different breweries out there. My favorites for the day were the Triple Belgium from Cheaha Brewing, The Rye Saison from Back Forty and the Belgium Red Rye from Black Warrior.

After the Brewfest was over, it was time for dinner. We headed to World of Beer, of course!!! We had some friends in town from Huntsville that have never been. When they were describing where to go they said somewhere cozy with comfort food and a great beer selection. Sounds like WOB to me?! The place ended up packed out before we left. There must have been a bar crawl going on, there were a ton of people that showed up looking like golfers and I even saw the penguin from Happy Gilmore.

Sunday – There was a possibility of winter weather for today, so Sunday morning I headed to the grocery store early to avoid the crowds. When I got home, Chris had a friend over so I unloaded the groceries and cleaned the house while they were down stairs.

We bought a friend’s treadmill and decided to go pick it up. It was such a debacle trying to get it out of their house! We had to take a door off it’s frame and everything!! We finally went to load it in my car and it didn’t fit. *head slap* Soooooo my sister came to the rescue later in the evening with her huge ass truck!

This is my running view for now. We are in no rush to take all the doors out in our house to get it upstairs! Week 1 Day 1 of C25K is done!

We also go some gaming in this weekend!

Weekend Shenanigans

And just like that, February is more than half over! Is anyone else just as confused as I am as to how that is even possible?

Friday- This past week, the state of Alabama has sat and watched the weather predictions unfold for possible winter weather troubles Sunday night into Monday morning and again possibly Tuesday. While the predictions have changed several times, as they always do in the south…everyone and their mother is out buying bread and milk. I decided to get ahead of the game and do our grocery shopping Friday night instead of waiting until Sunday when we usually go for fear there would be nothing left. Of course, it now looks like it may just be a cold rain today.

When I finally got home, I made chicken enchiladas and we caught up on some of our shows like the cool kids tend to do Friday evenings.

Saturday – We were up bright and early and headed to Gadsden for some thrift shopping and to check out Dirt Cheap. We had a dry run and didn’t find a thing. We then headed to Chris’s parents house to celebrate his grandmother’s birthday. His parents ordered Moe’s BBQ and his brother came up from Mobile with two of our nieces so everyone was there. It was great to spend some family time.

Saturday evening I made homemade lasagna for Valentine’s Day. As I have shared before, this is our tradition every year and I love it!

IMG_4687

Sunday we stayed in. I worked on the MCB site for a little while (one of my creative goals for this month), scheduled a few posts and then went downstairs and played video games with Chris.

In the afternoon we caught up on some more TV shows and watched The Interview. The movie was a little dumb, but not horrible. We also watched the SNL special last night! I really enjoyed that!

Weekend Eats:

WEEKEND_EATSChicken Salad Chick for lunch Friday. I ordered the Fancy Nancy Scoop that has grapes and apples as well as the pasta salad and fruit. Each dish comes with a pickle and cookie. She asked if I wanted to upgrade my cookie for a cream cheese brownie. Why yes, yes I do. And below is the lasagna before it was devoured over the course of the weekend.

I hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend! Stay warm to those north of us who will be getting our snow. I am not going to lie when I say I was looking forward to a snow day….sigh.

Weekend Shenanigans

Another weekend is on the books, folks! I honestly don’t know where my time goes on the weekends, I swear I don’t!

Friday my mom had to have surgery on her foot, so my sister and I agreed to work short days and head out there together to take them food and check on her after the surgery. I stopped by Little Italy’s to grab some pizza’s for everybody, my sister made them ham salad and some sides for the weekend.

I am glad my sister and I went out there together. We got some great quality time in the car to and from, and we all sat around and laughed and told stories for a few hours to keep my mom company. I also got to see my fur sisters. They are freaking huge for not even four months old!!!

Saturday, Chris and I hit up a few thrift stores, and had lunch with his parents at Jack Brown’s. I also got to stop by Marshal’s and picked up something for my office and a Butter nail polish for $4.99! Isn’t this color just gorgeous???

Sunday was meal planning and grocery shopping, along with some blogging work and house cleaning.

My weekend eats:

WEEKEND_EATS

Friday for lunch I grabbed an unwhich from Jimmy John’s(yum!!). I picked up the red velvet oreo’s Friday night because my nephew and I were curious. They are delicious, go get you some. My mom’s best friend sent her Smiley cookies from Eatin’ Park (our favorite treat from Greensburg, PA!!!) My mom shared with my sister and I, so I brought one home for Chris to try. Publix had the most amazing fragrant strawberries this weekend, so I had to pick some up for breakfast! Along with snacking on hot aired popcorn and I had a Southern Cobb Salad for dinner Sunday evening.

And just like that, the Sunday Blues arrived…

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! Let’s do this!

Weekend Shenanigans

Another weekend is on the books!

Friday we decided to keep it chill. I made chicken enchiladas for dinner and we caught up on some of our shows for the week. I am so glad everything is back on now!!!

Saturday morning we got an early start and hit up the thrift store in Pell City and grabbed some lunch at Hwy 55. Hwy 55 is a cute little diner in Pell City that has 50’s-60’s decor and music and serves up some delicious hamburgers! Chris and I both ate for under $20, so it is a great deal too!

Hwy 55

After lunch we were off to watch my nephew’s basketball game. It is always entertaining to watch kids sports. Parents get angry, the coaches are out of control, and there are just some kids that you know are going to be trouble when they are older by watching how they play. I am proud to say that Christopher conducts himself very well! I think he was a little nervous to have extra people watching him this past weekend though, he usually is one of the stars on his team but this week they lost their game. I am just glad that I got to go and I hope to make another before the season is over!

Christophers GameHe’s number 10 and was the starter of the game!

After the game, Chris and I decided to make a spontaneous trip to Gadsden since we were only 20 minutes away! We visited all the thrift shops there and then headed to Back Forty Brewery to grab a cold one. Back Forty is one of my favorite Alabama Breweries and I am so glad that we got to visit. It is such a cool space!

IMG_4623 IMG_4624

These doors!!!!

Chris got Truck Stop Honey and I got the Paw Paw’s Peach Patch. So delicious!!! While we were there we noticed that they sold beer vinegar. I have got to scour Pinterest for some recipes for it because that sounds amazing!!!

On our way back to our house, we decided to order Papa Sal’s for dinner. Papa Sal’s is this cute mom and pop Italian Restaurant in Clay. They have great prices and delicious food! I ordered the cheese ravioli with a house salad. It comes with a piece of homemade bread as well. Their house dressing is freaking amazing and one of my favorite salads from any where!

IMG_4625

After dinner, we stayed up to see if our game systems we purchased that day had worked. They did!!! I wanted to catalog all of our games so we don’t buy duplicates (we have done that several times already). I tried a few different apps and they all suck!!! Why isn’t there a good one??? Anyone know of one? I wasted about 30 minutes trying to do this and got no where. Chris talked me in to playing a game instead so I decided to partake in some Scooby Doo gaming!

IMG_4627

This one is so fun, but sort of hard! Why are all the cartoon games so damn hard?

Sunday morning I did some blog things, pursued Pinterest and meal planned. We then did our grocery shopping and I had lots of prepping to do for the week. We finally settled in to watch the super bowl but only lasted to after half time. I don’t really care about either team but was pulling for the Seahawks. I felt the commercials and half time show were lackluster. I love Katy Perry, but it the half time show wasn’t really anything special in my opinion until the very end with the flying star. I will say props to her for sticking to her true self. And I loved that Missy Elliot was there. My favorite commercial was Best Buds but I had already seen it on the spoiler that was going around on Twitter. The dog and horse get me every time!

In other news, my veggie spiralizer came in and I can’t freaking wait to use it!!! I have a sesame zucchini recipe and brown buttered sweet potato recipe that I am going to try this week! You know I will be sharing if they are good!
