Day 23: Things you’ve learned that school won’t teach you
Have you ever thought about the most valuable lessons in life? Chances are, you didn’t learn them in school! Who needs half the crap you learn in school. Geometry and Geology were a HUGE waste of my time!
1. Life is not fair.
2. The things that make you cool in school mean nothing after graduation.
3. You will learn who your true friends are the hard way.
4. Common sense. You can be book smart all day, but if you don’t have a little street smarts or common sense…you have nothing!
5. How to decide what is right and what is wrong.
6. Ethics. (Well other than you know you shouldn’t cheat in school.)
7. How to chose a career. Yeah, they want you to be focused on what you want to do in life…but they don’t prepare you for how to chose what it is that you want to do.
8. What the real world is really like. No schooling prepares you for actual real life after graduation.
9. How to cope with betrayal.
10. Class. You can’t teach class.
11. How to adjust to the obstacles of life.
12. Patience. Again, something that can not be taught.
13. To embrace who you are. When you are in school, you are forced to sort of “fit in with the sheep” so to speak. The kids that are different are the ones who are bullied and made fun of…but they are usually the ones that are the most intelligent. You shouldn’t make them hold that in.
14. People are only looking out for themselves. The sooner you learn this, the better off you will be! At the end of the day, only YOU can stand up for you.
15. How important it is to network. A lot of times, it is not what you know but who you know.
16. You chose to be happy. And your definition of happy is different from other people, and that is OK!
17. If any type of relationship in your life is toxic, you must set boundaries. No matter if they are friend or even family.
18. If you find yourself with no friends, maybe it is you.
19. You are not owed anything in life, you must earn it.
20. Time heals all wounds.
21. Most of the time what you are looking for has been in front of you the whole time.
22. Hard work, honesty and kindness with more often than not take you further than intelligence.
23. Karma is a bitch, and sometimes you are lucky enough to witness her in action to someone who has done you wrong!

This post was great and I agree with each one completely!
I agree with many of these! I wish that classes about basic “real world” concepts (such as taxes, financing, etc.) were taught in high school.
YES! My top ones:
1. Life is not fair.
2. The world doesn’t owe you anything – you need to work for it.
AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN – should I keep going? =)
