Thoughts on Whole 30

I did it. I finished my third round of Whole 30! After the initial OMG what have I gotten myself into again thoughts on around day three when I would have stabbed someone for a splash of coffee creamer and a hunk of cheese. Or when I had a rough rough rough day at work and I just wanted a damn glass of wine!!!! After those thoughts, I have to admit that this has been my easiest round of Whole 30 to date. The only thing I truly missed was my coffee creamer. Dare I say that I rarely noticed that I wasn’t consuming cheese. I know. Crazy.

I do Whole 30 because it works for me. It detoxes my system and strips away all the cravings for sugar laden foods and reminds me of how awesome my body feels when I am fueling it properly. Do I think Whole 30 is sustainable past the 30 days? Not really. It is very strict and doesn’t allow for any splurges. To me, life is too short not to enjoy things you love. I have so many people who tell me they could never do it because of the cheese or bread restrictions. I used to say the same thing. It is amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it!

I have to say, I feel absolutely AMAZING!!!! The results are in, I lost a total of 8 pounds. It might not be a big number, and I have done better in the past. But I wasn’t surprised when I got on the scale this morning. The truth is, I only worked out twice the entire month. And that was this past Monday and Tuesday. I just haven’t gotten my mojo back yet, and that is going to be my focus for February. If I would have put forth the effort to work out five days a week, I know I would have seen better results. But I am ok with that. You cant put a price on how much energy I have had the last few weeks. How much clearer I am thinking. How I haven’t had  single stomach ache all month. I managed to only get slightly sick once, despite the fact that Zoe has brought home a new bug at least once every week. There is something to clean eating!!! That is for sure.

I plan to try and stay 90% paleo now that Whole 30 is over. And I am introducing fitness back into my life after all the laziness on my part over the last year. I will adjust as I see the need once I dive in. And most definitely have a delicious lunch tomorrow with no cares about what is in my food.

I’ve never tried Whole 30 mostly because we try not to eat that much meat (once or twice a week) but it would definitely be good for me to cut back on added sugar. But a month without dessert or wine, or bread or cheese?! I know I *could* do it and it would be really good for me, but… I just don’t want to! 😉

Congrats!! I love how I feel when I do the whole 30, but I agree, it’s really difficult to do long-term. I wish I could eat like that all the time because I feel so good when I do but sometimes you need some wine 🙂 I

Way to go! You’re really so right that it’s amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it! And I seriously don’t know how you could have been working out consistently last year with a new baby! I seriously wonder where in the world these moms find the time and energy to do it! It’s exhausting and time consuming just taking care of a baby!

Congratulations!! I love your mindset on balance and what works for you longterm. I’m sure it makes it that much better that you can actually feel a difference from being more strict with your diet. Losing 8 pounds is a lot for one month, so you should definitely feel proud of that number, even if it’s more about how you’re feeling. I hope you enjoyed your coffee creamer extra today!

I thought of you today, I was like Nadine is done! She has to be so proud and then I thought, what did she eat today? So weird, I know! I LOVE how good this has made you feel!

You made it passed the finish line! Woohoo! I’m sure it’s a great feeling losing some pounds and feeling good…even though the Whole 30 diet may not be a lifelong thing at least it kind of trained you to choose healthy eating options but now you’re not totally constrained from your faves like coffee creamer! Yes, girl! You did it! Congratulation! I need to find a healthy eating plan that works for both of us. I just can’t bring myself to cook two separate meals. We eat healthy for the most part – it’s snacking, pizza nights, and booze that get me every time!

Great job!! 8 pounds is still great!

8 lbs. is awesome! And the way you feel and the self-control you have is another awesome perk! Way to go, Nadine! I would really really really struggle with this but not because of the bread and cheese. I just enjoy wine and creamer too much. And I know K would be 100% NOT ok with me changing our menu that dramatically. Hahaha!

So proud of you!! And I can’t believe you didn’t miss cheese — but you’re so awesome. And 8 pounds is a lot, so don’t sell yourself short. A cheat every now and then is completely necessary.
