I decided to talk about my weekend with the Back on Track check in because…well…I have to talk about my weekend to explain myself.
What had happened was…
Well, really, what had happened was I wasn’t prepared on Friday. I knew bad weather was coming but I wasn’t sure what our plans were. We usually stay at our house when there is snow and it’s no big thing. Well, with a newborn we decided to go to my in-laws. We were worried that we would lose electricity with the ice and how can you keep a 5 week old warm with no heat?? And then the fact that we live 15 minutes off the closest exit up a mountain isn’t very conducive if there is an emergency and we need to get out. Your views on everything change the minute you are responsible for a tiny life.
I didn’t really think ahead to get snacks and food to take with me and well Whole 30 isn’t the most accommodating thing to do when you aren’t home so I just went with whatever I could because hunger won. I had at least 4 or 5 infractions over the weekend and then on Saturday night when we got home I said fuck it and had some wine. So I restarted Whole 30 yesterday.
To be honest, I am not disappointed in myself. Last year, Whole 30 was all about me trying to prove to myself that I could do it. That I could stick to the rules for 30 days and have the will power. And I did it and it was awesome. This year, Whole 30 is more about me getting my eating back in control and get my “healthy lifestyle” attitude back. Lifestyles include some splurges here and there so I am not too mad about it. I am at the point in my life where I realize that I went off the path for a meal or two but I can get right back on. The old me would have thought that I ruined it and I would have given up and started again next month only to have the same thing occur. Now? I can just be good from here on out and it is fine. No giving up.
So other than the infractions, my weekend consisted of staying at our in-laws Friday morning until Saturday afternoon. The rest of the weekend we stayed at our house and I got some things done around the house, watched my Steelers beat some Dolphin ass, started reading Magnolia Story and caught up on some of our shows.
Then of course, there were the many faces of Little Z! Her little newborn sized clothes are starting to get too short for her! Ahhhhh don’t get me started I might cry.
Link up with Amy and I every Tuesday this month and let us know how you are doing! If I try any new recipes this week, I will share them next Tuesday!

Good for you not beating yourself up. Things, plans, life changes. its doing what works best for you at the moment. Just get back on track & make everyday a little more healthier than the one before 😉
Can you believe she’s growing that fast? It amazes me. Our middle grandson just turned 7 this weekend & I SWEAR he was just born… its mind blowing.
Shit happens, girl! Winter weather throws me for a loop always. You’ve got this!
whole30 is a great way to reset but i think it’s ok not following the rules to the T. in fact, i ate some POP chips last night and drank wine and IDGAF! didn’t even feel guilty about it last night or this morning…balance, my friend! it’s all about balance!! 😀
Life happens and you can’t always have a perfect Whole30. Proud of you for getting right back at it, I am very familiar with getting off track and just letting it go on and on!! I had to laugh at “what had happened was” because I wonder if people who are not from the south would even think that was funny. I lol’d though!!
As an Ohioan it always surprises me the way the south reacts to snow/ice/cold. I totally get it- when your homes and cars and pipes and road crews aren’t used to the extreme it can be deadly and dangerous. (Just like how +95 degrees in OH causes issues.) I’m glad you guys made smart decisions, even if your Whole 30 suffered for it.
Totally thought about you when I heard the results of the Alabama v. Clemson game. My thoughts are with ya.
Don’t be too hard on yourself! Snowy weekends will throw anyone off! Also, how are you liking The Magnolia Story???
Hey, shit happens sometimes & as long as you can get back on track, you are fine. Crappy weather, not being at your own home & having a baby can do that to a person. You’ll be fine, I know that you will. 🙂
Hey, life happens! I thought about trying Whole30 and after researching I realizing it’s just not something I can realistically do right now. HOWEVER, I’m still making changes and trying to cut sugar and dairy as much as possible because I definitely consume too much of them. For me, it’s about baby steps and not going from o to 100. Good luck getting back on track!
It’s all about balance! You’re still doing an awesome job, and awesome for not beating yourself up over it. That weather definitely called for some wine! And oh, those faces! I LOVE HER LITTLE FACE, I WANT TO SQUEEZE those cheeks — clearly, I need another visit soon.
i honestly think you deserve a huge pat on the back and high five, because making ‘mistakes’ and getting straight back on the horse is so much more important than making it 30 days with no mistakes, you know? because like you said, lifestyle. go you girl!
It’s true, you’re whole perspective changes when thinking about a little one. Good call on being in a safe warm place and for no one going hungry regardless of what you ate 🙂 Beautifully Candid
I love your attitude towards Whole30 this time around! You already know that you can do it, so if you mess up every now and then, it’s no big deal because you can get yourself back on track. I’m sure that your in laws loved having y’all over for the ice storm so they could get as much of little Zoe as they could! And with all the cold weather, I think that you needed some wine to help keep you warm!
You can’t control it all! You do the best you can with what you have where you are, then you correct when you get a chance. Great job!
Zoe is just the cutest! I think a snow/ice storm forcing you to leave your home for the weekend is more than a good reason to not stick to a super strict meal plan!
Baby Zoe is too adorable and I don’t blame you for planning ahead to escape the cold while leaving your meal plan and such behind…You have those Momma priorities!
There’s something about snow that makes you not want to eat healthy. I would have done the same!! Thanks for sharing your story, Nadine!
Not bad at all especially trying to prepare for a snowstorm with a newborn. Hell yes Steelers- such a good game! Zoe is the cutest:)
Oh girl, what can you do. Weather does weird stuff to my eating habits. When it’s beautiful and sunny an ideal whether, I want to eat so healthy, lots of salads and veggies. But when it’s dreary and cold, I want to eat all the sugar and crap. I love that you are so real and I’m proud of you! Zoe gets cuter and cuter by the minute!!!
Like you said, it’s life and stuff happens. As long as you stay focused on your end goal, which is learning to overall make healthier choices and lead a healthy lifestyle that’s all that matters. We all need those splurges from time to time.
No giving up! I like your attitude! 🙂 You’ve got this, girl!
Glad you aren’t being too hard on yourself! Especially with a newborn. Gotta keep that baby warm! She is so cute! Ellie has grown too long for some of her 3 month clothes and I can’t believe it.
